Magnetic Hill in Ladakh
The Magnetic Hill is located at a distance of 30 Kms from the Leh town in Ladakh at a height of around 14,000 feet above the sea level. On the east side of the Magnetic Hill flows the Sindhu River, flowing in Tibet and to the southern side of the hill flows Indus, flowing in Tibet and goes to Pakistan. It is known for its amazing magnetic attributes. Here, with the off engines the vehicle moves up at the speed of 20 kms/hour.
The hill attracts all metallic objects, like vehicles, aircraft etc because the hill is believed to have some magnetic properties. Even the planes & helicopters feel the same magnetic impact. To avoid the magnetic impact of the hill in that area the pilots need to fly at a very high speed. The aircraft start to jerk if it comes within the radius of Magnetic Hill.
Around the magnetic hill is Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a holy place, where the 10th guru of the Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh, used to come to meditate in the 17th century.
In this Himalayas region, one can enjoy some views of colorful hills and mountains. Here, the hills put up with different colors. Some are white and snow – covered and some are red or orange in color while there are some that are grey or black color.
