Ladakh also known by the name, land of many passes, lies in the north of India at the Tibetan border. Ladakh region lies in between the great Himalayas and Kunlun Mountain. Ladakh state shares its border with the Tibet, Lahaul and Spiti, Jammu and Kashmir and Xinjiang. Because of its culture, it is also sometimes known as Little Tibet. Ladakh has districts of Zanskar, Baltistan valley, Indus valley, Lahaul and Spiti, Aksai Chin, Ngari, Guge, Nubra valley and Rudok valley.

Leh, the capital of Ladakh is the largest district in the Ladakh. Leh Ladakh is a place where the sign of Buddhism culture is seen. The Ladakh come into famous from 19th century onwards. From that time onwards, 18000 visitors have visited the Ladakh. Ladakh remains close from November to June for the whole of world, as it receives the heavy snow fall. Because of the location of Ladakh in between the mountains, it is a best place for adventure activities. Ladakh’s main culture is Buddhism, which is followed by same number of Islam religion, and after that Hindus and others come into priority.

History of Ladakh

The earliest people of Ladakh were known as Dardi, which used to be the gold producers at that time. The continuous raids by the Muslim country on Ladakh weaken and change the structure of Ladakh. The Ladakh was divided into two parts, upper and lower Ladakh. King Bhagan reunited the city by over powered the Leh kingdom. After this victory, he changed his surname to Namgyal and founded a new dynasty, which today also resides.

During the reign of Jamyang Namgyal, hard work was done to change the religion of Ladakh into the Islam, but was of no use. Many monasteries and gompas were destroyed but the later kings restore them or made new monasteries.

Other information   

The Ladakh music contains the religious chanting, either in Tibetan or in Sanskrit, because of which it is sung in the religious festivals. These chants are difficult which is sung with the musical instruments Surna and Daman. The mask dance is also preformed, which is an important part of the Ladakh festival.
